How to transfer a domain to Vikalink
- Check the domain is eligible. Most registrars require the domain to be at least 60 days old and not recently transferred.
- Unlock the domain at your current registrar (turn off the registrar lock / transfer lock).
- Get the authorization (EPP) code from your current registrar.
- Make sure the admin email is correct, because the transfer confirmation is sent there.
- Create your Vikalink account, then contact support with the domain name and authorization code to start the transfer.
- Approve the transfer email. Most transfers complete within about 5 to 7 days.
Do not let the domain expire while a transfer is in progress. Your website and email keep working during the transfer as long as your DNS records stay the same.
Transferring from a specific provider
The steps are the same everywhere, but the menu names differ. Look for "domain lock" and "authorization code" (also called EPP code or transfer key) in your account:
- GoDaddy: domain settings, then Transfer domain away, and request the authorization code.
- Namecheap: Domain List, Manage, Domain tab, Transfer Out, then Auth code.
- Hostinger: Domains, select the domain, then Transfer and unlock.
- Bluehost and HostGator: domain settings, turn off the transfer lock, then get the EPP code.
- Wix and WordPress.com: these are website platforms that can also sell domains. Open the domain settings and choose Transfer away. Moving only the domain does not move your website, so plan the site move separately.

Frequently asked questions
Will my website go offline when I transfer?
No, as long as your DNS records (nameservers) stay the same. Vikalink can keep them as they are during the transfer.
Can I transfer a .com.gh domain?
Rules for .com.gh differ from global extensions like .com. Contact us with the domain and we will confirm what is needed.
Do I need hosting from Vikalink to transfer a domain?
No. You can transfer only the domain, and add Ghana web hosting later if you want it.
